Education for a Better Future
In 2014, co-founder of Freunde der Endarofta e.V., David Schellhaas, worked for a year in a volunteer service at Endarofta Secondary School in Karatu. This volunteer year was the catalyst for founding the NGO.History
Endarofta Secondary School is a boarding school founded in 1984 by the residents of Karatu. However, since the turn of the millennium, some residents exploited the school for personal gain. By 2007, the school was no longer able to sustain operations. The residents then turned to the Catholic Church of Mbulu. This commissioned the S.C.I.M. Brothers to manage and renovate the school.Since 2008, the school has been under the Brothers’ leadership. With great dedication, the Brothers advanced the school’s development. For example, they built new sanitary facilities, as the old ones had become very outdated. These renovation processes are lengthy, as the Brothers can only finance them through the school’s income.Through their tireless efforts, the Brothers have already succeeded in providing students with a good and relatively affordable learning environment. Since 2024, the school’s management has been transferred to a sister order from Mbulu, which continues the Brothers’ work.

Work of the NGO
The work of the brothers and sisters at Endarofta Secondary School would not be possible without the help of sponsors. We support this effort. Freunde der Endarofta e.V. assist in funding projects that promote the school’s independence, allowing it to develop further and provide students with a better learning environment. For example, through joint support from donors, we established a nursery for students at Endarofta Secondary School, where first aid can be administered. Additionally, a computer room was set up where students receive computer lessons and can thus maintain digital contact with the partner school (Starkenburg Gymnasium Heppenheim).Current Projects

A notable feature of the Endarofta Secondary School is that the school provides children whose parents cannot afford schooling with free education each year. Currently, 22 out of approximately 275 students attend the school free of charge.Here as well, we support as an association by funding the education of four additional students from poor backgrounds at the Endarofta Secondary School.
Donation Need
The association funds school attendance until graduation. The school fee is €550 per year, totaling €2200.So far, we have enabled one student to graduate. For four more students, school attendance until graduation is funded.Donation status for financing the next student:0/2200€
Dining Hall
As part of the school renovation, the school administration plans to build a dining hall. Currently, there is no such facility, so students are forced to get and eat their food outdoors, regardless of weather. Together with the principal, we have developed a concept for a dining hall and are only looking for donors.

Beds & Mattresses
Since the dormitories are aging, the school management plans to renovate them gradually. The renovation of the rooms is funded by the school or the sisterhood. However, there are no sufficient funds to equip the rooms with the necessary 24 beds (bunk beds) and 48 mattresses. Therefore, we are seeking donors. The costs are €100 per bed and €16 per mattress.

For Endarofta Secondary School, a long-term water supply is to be secured. So far, the available water has had to be strictly rationed, as continuous supply was not possible. Although a well has already been drilled, without a suitable pump and a sufficiently large buffer storage, the water cannot be reliably extracted and stored.With the acquisition of these two components, the school will first gain permanent access to clean drinking water. This not only eliminates the previous rationing but also allows for significant expansion of the school garden and improvements in livestock farming, which will contribute to the school’s long-term food security. This creates a stable, hygienic, and sustainable foundation for the daily lives of the students.To achieve this goal, we rely on support. Every donation—large or small—helps to ensure the school’s water supply permanently and to provide the children with better living and learning conditions.
